Mr. Alan,

Excellent article.
Being an HR graduate and living in K.S.A , where expatriates dont have much opportunities in Human Resource, and not having success in finding ajob since last 6 months. This is a great motivation and inspiration.

Hi Allan, your article motivates me in a time where i'm struggling to get the right opportunity! Although I'm facing a lot of deceptions in the work market but my persistence dictates me to survive and keep on trying! What I do is keep on working on myself, developing my skills and updating my knowledge.
I have realized that I can't sit in the corner whining about not getting the right opportunity... I have to keep on working on my self-development in order to be ready for the big hit!
Thank you! your article enlightened my day :)

Alan, reading about your failures are my inspiration. I read this article over and over and over --- and over again to remind me that even in a desert, there is an oasis awaiting right around the corner.

I chose my career in HR, but now I am at a point in my life where generalist / manager work just isn't for me. I'm an educator. I love training / teaching / influencing etc...And now I just feel stuck in this job.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very grateful and thankful. I actually like my employer and if I could be a trainer here, I'd probably stay, but that isn't looking like a possibility.

I am definitely a much better educator than I am a generalist; I don't think that means I've failed, but in the churning words of Thomas Edison, "I haven't failed, I've found 10,000 ways that didn't work." And, being a generalist in HR, just doesn't work for me anymore.

I feel like I know my calling and now I just need to walk in it 150%.

Alan, what a wonderful and very timely article. I have been in HR for many years and currently looking for employment. There are times when I get discouraged but this article has inspired me as I continue my job search. If we didn't have failures, how would we ever learn from our mistakes? Thank you for such inspiring words

Success doesn't depend on one factor. Some times great people fail, foolish enjoys, but use of wisdom changes the side of coin.

Great article...excellent.

However President Obama had MORE years in elected office than HRC and Edwards had combined. He was a Illinois State Senator from from 1997 to 2004 and then a US Senator from 2004 until the presendency.

Had had MORE than 4 years in politics. Other than that tid-bit, this is a great read!
